The Malaga chef welcomes the autumn season with new concepts and openings in Marbella.

After an intense summer with the openings of Kemuri, where the chef pays tribute to Japan, and the Italian restaurant Alelí, Dani returns to its origins with Tragabuches, a pure Andalusian restaurant.

With these new concepts, Dani García returns to the routine of exploring other international cuisines, as he did a few months ago with Babette, being a tribute to French cuisine in Marbella. With Tragabuches the Andalusian style is recovered and that traditional cuisine with which the chef made his way through the industry, and where he was awarded his first Michelin star.

ALELÍ

Since July, italian restaurant Alelí has been Dani García’s new bet on Italian cuisine. A restaurant inspired by the most authentic, beautiful and decadent Italy, and with references such as “La dolce Vita” by Federico Fellini or “La Gran Belleza” by Paolo Sorrentino, the restaurant offers an experience that focuses on the quality of raw materials and technique. It is a classic osteria that offers a gastronomic trip to the diner through the regions of Piedmont, Lombardy, Lazio, Campania or Sicily, and that has its culmination in the courtyard, a terrace full of colour and vegetation, which is a window to the Amalfi coast.

KEMURI

On the other side of this iconic courtyard is Kemuri, a journey to more traditional Japanese cuisine, inspired by sushi bars and the age-old gastronomic culture of the city of Kyoto with the seal of Dani Garcia. With capacity for a maximum of 45 diners, it is an exclusive place that brings the cuisine of the Japanese country all day and at night transforms into Kurai, a cocktail bar where you can sample a varied menu with exclusive cocktails inspired on the history of the Five National Treasures of Japan.

TRAGABUCHES

With Tragabuches, on the other hand, Dani García recovers one of the first restaurants with which he managed to consolidate himself in the national gastronomic panorama. Originating in Ronda in 1998, it now arrives in Marbella with a proposal of traditional cuisine aimed at all audiences. Thus, Tragabuches is Andalusia in its purest state, a place where you can breathe its culture in every corner and where the local product and proximity will be the main axis. Your menu will not be missing spoon dishes and lifelong recipes, but adapted to the present times.

Covering new types of cuisine, such as Italian and Japanese, located in Puente Romano and finally the traditional Andalusian with Tragabuches.

KEMURI BY DANI GARCÍA

Kemuri is a tribute by the chef from Marbella to one of the most fascinating cuisines in the world, with which he will be able to transport the diner to the heart of Kyoto, a symbol of Japanese tradition and craftsmanship. His extensive and varied menu remains true to its essence, including an authentic proposal with dishes from the most classic Japanese cuisine, such as wagyu ramen, all in combination with a unique and disruptive atmosphere.

KURAI NIGHTS

Night comes to Kemuri and Dani García’s Japanese tavern becomes a new concept.

When it reaches 00:00, the katanas are drawn, a change to the sound of music from the Omakase bar by the DJ, together with a Japanese show, turns your dining experience into a clandestine cocktail bar. Undoubtedly the place to spend your Marbella evenings.

Kurai, which means “dark” in Japanese, welcomes 45 people who will enjoy Dani García’s first concept dedicated to Japan.

TENKA GOKEN

As the story of the “Five National Treasures of Japan” goes, Kurai Nights begins with a hammer to the ice, and the Tenka Goken arise because that is when the blacksmith begins his work.

A cocktail bar with a signature menu signed by chef Dani García and directed by Manu Valenciano, the Group’s Bar Manager. Inspired by Japan and its traditions, bringing all the senses to Japanese culture through good drinking.

They will make you feel as if you were in a real speakeasy cocktail bar.

Chef Dani García brings his unique, vibrant form of cooking to London in a relaxed space that is set to become the heart of the foodie scene in London, and which is famous for its stand-out, unforgettable flavours.

BiBo is born from the chef’s desire to bring the spirit of traditional Spanish food to a global audience, with a menu based on his home and his upbringing, honouring the techniques, flavours and ingredients that made him the chef he is today. It’s all about the Andalusian lifestyle based around long, easy-going lunches with friends and family, something we’re confident our London customers will be on board with.

A CUISINE WITHOUT BORDERS

Dani García, one of the most admired and internationally active Spanish chef in the world, the man behind the BiBo Shoreditch restaurant, and who recently announced new openings in Paris and Amsterdam, shares what he loves most about his home town.

Dani García’s position at the pinnacle of Spanish cuisine is the result of his impressive business project: the Dani García Group. After achieving a series of major successes, such as being awarded his Michelin star in 2019, Dani came up with BiBo, featuring venues in Marbella, Madrid, Tarifa, Ibiza and Doha, with the aim of creating a casual tapas and brasserie concept as a way to democratise the experience of a great meal.

Drawing on the natural beauty and unique landscapes of Spain’s southernmost region, the BiBo Shoreditch menu pays tribute to the culinary creativity of the Andalusian region and the various key ingredients that are synonymous with each province.

Welcome to the ideal place to discover the most delicious Spanish flavours, carefully presented in the form of traditional Andalusian dishes and tapas.

DANI GARCÍA AND THE BIBO TEAM HOPE TO SEE YOU SOON!

Kemuri is now a reality, Dani García’s “Izakaya” arrives in his hometown, Marbella. This opening took place at the Hotel Puente Romano, last Friday 29th July. The day came when the chef materialised his goal of having a Japanese restaurant in the group, and moreover, in the capital of the Costa del Sol.

Japanese gastronomy arrives at the Dani García Group

This tavern is a step into the millenary Japanese gastronomy, a combination of Mediterranean flavours with this traditional Japanese cuisine. This concept will be transformed into “Kurai” in the evenings, a clandestine cocktail bar where you can enjoy a signature menu with exclusive cocktails inspired by the history of Japan’s Five National Treasures. Only you will be lucky enough to get to know the best kept treasures of Japanese culture.

Where does the Kemuri concept originate?

In the etymological origin of its own name, which means smoke in Japanese, it has a space designed based on the typical color contrast of Japanese architecture. A trip to Asia without leaving the coast of Malaga. A clever interplay of light and shadow forms an enveloping environment, where stone, rough stucco and dark-toned wood combine with other elements such as shoji, traditional sliding doors of translucent paper and wooden frames typical of Japan.

Kemuri’s culinary offer is complemented by a very special liquid proposal where the sake menu stands out, consisting of a meticulous selection of approximately 40 different sakes selected by the Sake Sommelier, Dominik Ponomarew.

KURAI NIGHTS

At 00:00, this Japanese tavern transforms into Kurai Nights, a cocktail bar and invites all the curious to enter a clandestine and unique space, where you can live the most unique nights of Marbella, this refers to “dark” in Japanese. A cocktail bar with a signature menu signed by Dani García and directed by Manu Valenciano, Bar Manager of the Group and the bar team. They are inspired by the history behind the so-called Five National Treasures of Japan, and will put the cherry on top of the Marbella night in a relaxed and fun atmosphere.

With a capacity for up to 45 people, this is the first restaurant concept that Dani García has dedicated to Japanese cuisine, paying homage to friends such as chef Nobu Matsuhisa. Kemuri thus joins the group of restaurants that the Dani García Group already has in his hometown, including Babette, Leña and Alelí, his most recent opening with an Italian accent.

After winning over the palates of Ibiza’s locals and visitors alike last summer, chef Dani García is back in the Balearic Islands for another summer with BiBo Ibiza Bay, his most cosmopolitan project, overlooking Talamanca beach, which opened on 26 May for a new season on the island.

As with the other BiBo restaurants, the Ibiza venue provides a relaxed and cosmopolitan take on some unexpected flavours and products. A culinary venture that will delight locals and visitors alike, taking you on a journey round every part of the island, through the most lively and very BiBo culinary style.
Combining the Málaga chef’s imagination and creativity with the concept of a brasserie, tapas bar and steak house, this most cosmopolitan project by the Dani García Group has once again opened its doors in Ibiza and its culinary delights are something not to be missed this summer.

The menu brings together the culinary memories that Dani García has gathered as a result of his travels, and BiBo has already triumphed in cities such as Madrid, London, Tarifa and Doha.

The coolest vibe

The relaxed luxury vibe of Nobu Hotel Ibiza Bay is once again the perfect place for BiBo Ibiza Bay, as one of the most attractive culinary places to head for, with Nobu and the Chambao beach bar.

On this occasion, the new BiBo Ibiza Bay season will include a more authentic menu, where local and market produce will feature heavily. As part of this particular “travel guide”, Dani García takes inspiration from some of his mentors, such as Joël Robuchon, to prepare some of the restaurant’s most emblematic dishes.

This means the people of Ibiza can enjoy BiBo’s most iconic dishes, such as the famous oxtail brioche and the fried hake, in a unique setting on the shores of the Mediterranean. The restaurant is open daily from 7pm.

A new flower has bloomed in the culinary garden of Marbella, and it’s lively, fresh and has an Italian accent. This is Alelí, the new Italian restaurant by Dani García, set to open on 1 July in Marbella.

Inspired by the most authentic, beautiful and decadent side of Italy, with a nod to iconic points of reference such as Federico Fellini’s La Dolce Vita and The Great Beauty by Paolo Sorrentino, the restaurant offers an experience that is all about quality produce and great technique, a classic osteria where diners can enjoy some of Italy’s most iconic dishes, all with a special Dani García twist, and where the chef’s vision and expertise extends across the whole menu.

Categorised in the traditional Italian way, the Alelí menu is a journey round the regions of Piedmont, Lombardy, Lazio, Campania and Sicily, with dishes that range from various types of mortadella to artisanally made fresh pasta, such as the agnolotti del plin from Piedmont. Naturally, there is a section with pizzas made in the purest Neapolitan style, allowing the dough to ferment for 48 hours before being cooked in a wood-fired oven.

The Italian dishes on offer, therefore, are not just authentic, they’re also as fresh as can be, something that Alelí prides itself on, using produce and goods from Italian suppliers of the very highest quality. As executive chef of this new venture, Nicholas Amici brings an extra touch of originality and tradition to the venue’s kitchen. Born and raised in Rome, his knowledge and conceptual understanding of Italian cooking have been key to the restaurant’s development.

In terms of pairings, the wine list at Alelí is inspired by Dani García’s fresh and agile vision, with a very Mediterranean focus. Spanish and Italian wines feature heavily, with a carefully thought-out range and choice of vintages available. From Italy, options include Tuscan wines from small producers in the Montalcino area such as Sassicaia, Tignanello and Masseto, as well as others that are harder to find, such as Rinaldi, Soldera and Burlotto.

Another characteristic element of Alelí is its terrace, a courtyard that the various rooms open out onto, and a unique space that perfectly encapsulates the Italian philosophical concept of dolce far niente, evoking the pleasure of doing nothing at all. Enjoying a glass of Campari or Aperol Spritz in the courtyard, under the shade of the vines and lemon trees, surrounded by bright colours, terracotta and various other elements, with the particular music choices playing in the background, is like gazing out from a balcony in Positano on the Amalfi coast.

With seating for up to 160 people, this new restaurant offers a unique experience in a fabulous setting.

Alelí joins the collection of restaurants that the Dani García Group already runs at the Puente Romano Beach Resort, including Babette and Leña, and is set to be joined by Kemuri, the chef’s Japanese restaurant that will be opening soon.

As Dani García mentioned on El Hormiguero on Monday, his forthcoming projects include ventures in Paris, Amsterdam, Miami and Dubai that will open in 2023, and the restaurants Alelí, Kemuri and Tragabuches will all open in Marbella before the end of this summer.

The night of 23 June is Saint John’s Eve, or San Juan. It’s the longest day of the year, and the shortest night. Over time it’s become it’s one of the most special and magical days of the summer. All manner of traditions exist to ward off evil so good can prevail.

Bonfires in Alicante, dipping one’s feet in the sea at midnight or even immersing yourself fully as the clocks strike 12. It’s all about making your wishes come true and having new hopes for the future.

It’s also becoming more common for people to make plans of their own, creating their own unique midsummer celebrations. This is how Dani García sees it, ensuring you’ve got a range of different options available at his restaurants so you can enjoy his amazing food to the fullest.

Madrid

There’s no beach, but the essence of San Juan is strong in the capital. You can hit the streets and have a bite to eat in a local restaurant. Burn your wishes at Leña. Write down your hopes and dreams, then toss them in water to send them on their way with Lobito de Mar on calle Jorge Juan. Or have you palm read at BiBo Madrid.

Marbella

With the beach so close, going for a dip is one of the key plans for the night of the 23rd. However, for the best San Juan celebrations head to Lobito de Mar and Leña. Your wishes will be remain secret, and will 100% definitely come true. Babette also offers the finest feast for everyone, with Dani García’s take on French cuisine.

Tarifa

San Juan in Tarifa is all about the GKA Air World Championships on Valdevaqueros beach with the BiBo chill out area and with Martini Fiero, from 4pm. With the DJ spinning tunes, the best vibe around and a magician wowing you with tricks all evening. A very special and slightly different San Juan celebration.

With the arrival of almadraba fishing season, it’s high tuna season for Dani García. In conjunction with Gadira, this year the chef wanted to celebrate one of the most special times of the year by demonstrating the ronqueo technique.

This is the traditional method of breaking the fish down into the various different cuts, together with an explanation of how they’re used to get the most out of each one. Following the ronqueo, Dani García led a masterclass on all of them to demonstrate and provide ideas on how to prepare certain tuna cuts at home.

Running alongside these special events, BiBo (Madrid and Tarifa) and Lobito de Mar (Marbella and Madrid) both included the special “15 tunas for 15 days” dishes on their menu. A unique delicacy that you can enjoy at both concepts to experience one of the most amazing products from the ocean.

Ronqueo Marbella

On 4 May, at the Salón Andalucía of the Puente Romano hotel in Marbella, Dani’s home town and location of the group’s Leña and Babette restaurants. On this occasion and under the title of ‘Tuna, Caviar and Cocktail’, Dani García was assisted by Hervé Courtot, Corporate Chef for Nobu Hotels, to demonstrate how tuna is broken down into its various cuts, starting at 6pm.

Following this display, guests enjoyed a light dinner that included some of the dishes that had been explained previously. A Roku-based cocktail was also served.

Ronqueo Madrid

A day later, on 5 May, “The Art of Tuna” came to Dani Brasserie at the Four Seasons hotel in Madrid, which opened the terrace season with its first demonstration of the traditional ronqueo technique. Under the name “Tuna, Caviar and Champagne”, the event featured a welcoming cocktail, a special dinner by Dani and his team, and an afterparty with live music from DJs Sandro Bianchi and Mestiza.

The food served began with an o’toro nigiri with white soy sauce and Cádiz tuna pani puri with onion, followed by four main dishes: lean red tuna, ají amarillo chili, coriander and black olives; Nitro Tomato, green gazpacho and tuna belly tartare with Baeri caviar; smoked nape of tuna, soft wheat berries, coconut and kimchi; and tuna Wellington with matelote sauce and home-cooked truffles. Dessert consisted of yuzu sorbet with champagne, topped off with dark chocolate, gianduja and Arabica coffee ice cream.

Ronqueo Tarifa

The programme of ronqueo events around Spain was brought to a close in Tarifa, a town that is heavily involved in the almadraba method of tuna fishing. On 17 May, the BiBo Beach House restaurant in Tarifa gave ‘The Art of Tuna’ a fitting send-off. Located next to the Valdevaqueros beach dune, in an open-air setting, it was the first ronqueo event hosted at the restaurant.

As the sun set after the display, guests enjoyed a cocktail aperitif to bring this unique series of events to a close.

From one day to the next, everyone’s dreams ground to a halt. That new job you were about to start, the trip you’d organised to that amazing city or country… When it happened, it felt like a bucket of cold water had been thrown over you. Everything ground to a halt, with no way of knowing if things will ever get going again.

And any enthusiasm for all the moments and things that the future held just melted away. Everyone with an uncertain future, with no date for things to get back to normal. No specific date set for one of the happiest days of your life.

If you’re reading this, you may be one of those couples who were suddenly forced to cancel your happiest day. Maybe you went to pick up that dress that you looked so gorgeous in, only to hang it up in your wardrobe without knowing when you would get to wear it. Maybe you’ve had to tell that catering company that was going to cook up a storm that the day is no longer on. And you’ve ended up telling the DJ that because of the situation there’ll be no music until further notice.

Everything came crashing down. And yet, there was one thing that remained, and which will always be there, no matter what, and that’s love – love for your special someone, for eternal happiness and for having a wonderful time. Nobody said this would be an easy time, but we have to give thanks every day for still having that lust for life and for getting back to all those plans that were put on hold.

Getting back to reorganising and to celebrating love and friendship. In our case, we can’t wait to bear witness to all those moments. To ensure you regain that excitement and see your smiles and that sparkle in your eyes.

Everything will pass – and when it does, we’ll all get back to living and celebrating love in the best possible way, and doing what we’re passionate about. Back to doing our thing with the same enthusiasm as ever, with the same love as ever – and that’s something that no pandemic can ever defeat.

Tarifa, in the south of Cádiz province. A town of light and charm that seduces all who visit. The most idyllic beaches in Andalusia, with fine sand, crystal-clear water and a reputation as the best in Spain. Perfect for spending a day in the sun or enjoying water sports with other devotees – surfing, kitesurfing, windsurfing, paddle boarding, etc.

Tarifa is a town where it’s easy to make all kinds of plans to ensure you make the most of its culture, food and entertainment options. Your day might start with a good Mediterranean breakfast of toast, coffee and orange juice, so you’ll be all set for a wander round the town, which should always include a visit to the Guzmán El Bueno castle, one of the best preserved fortresses in Andalusia. It was built in 960 by the caliph, Abd-ar-Rahman III, though it bears the name of the Christian governor, Guzmán El Bueno, who defended the city during the Christian invasion of 1294.

You’ll then be free to take stroll around the town’s shops and bars, and enjoy an aperitif and a wonderful bite of net-caught tuna from Barbate, another charming town that’s not far from Tarifa.

If you’re a water sports lover, there are plenty of surf schools that can provide whatever gear you need, or get you started with individual lessons in surfing or kitesurfing, among others.

All of this comes before experiencing the most magical sunset on the dunes at Valdevaqueros. They’re the kind of sunsets you remember for the rest of the year and think of every chilly winter’s evening as you listen to some chill-out. Don’t forget to grab a selfie with the sunset in the background – when the winter cold starts to bite, you’ll thank us for this bit of influencer advice.

The day draws to a close with good times among family and friends – a culinary evening that will continue to take you on your travels, this time around the world, with the tastes and flavours of cities and cultures that the chef, Dani García, has discovered in the different parts of the world he’s been to. BiBo Beach House, better known as BiBo Tarifa, will take you to each and every one of them through its carefully curated menu, adapted to the Tarifa style, with exclusive dishes to match its particular Cádiz brasserie style, together with some truly fabulous cocktails.
